The Magical town of Dolores Hidalgo has historical significance in Mexico’s Independence from Spain. More importantly for us, it is the center for manufacture of decorative hand-painted Talavera pottery.
On our way back to SMA We’ll visit Galeria Atotonilco to see their breathtaking Mexican folk art collection. Then we’ll relax with drinks at the elegant Hotel Nirvana Restaurante & Retreat.
Fee of $3500 MX includes breakfast, transportation, museum fees, art supplies, instruction and individual coaching in “Sketching Fast & Loose.” Learn to capture the essence of the people, places and things you see in your travels. My prior students / attendees on previous trips get a discount of $500 MX. Only $2000 MX total fee if you bring your own art supplies and don’t need instruction.

Guanajuato

Day Trip

Friday, March 29, 2024
Guanajuato city is known for its silver mining history and colonial architecture. It is the home of the University of Guanajuato and the annual Cervantes festival. Its network of narrow streets, alleyways and tunnels is typified by the Callejón del Beso (Alley of the Kiss), so named because the balconies are close enough for a couple to reach across and kiss. An unusual attraction is a museum containing dozens of mummified corpses exhumed from a nearby cemetery

Bernal
Sketching/ Sight-seeing
Day Trip
Friday, January 26, 2024
Five women took the trip to Bernal with me on September 29. We started our sketching adventure at the Museo de Mascara. After that, drawing the red and yellow architecture of Templo San Sebastian and the delightful pink and white town hall.
Then lunch at El Mesquite, while I presented the basis of human proportions. We praticed drawing each other and doing quick self-portraits.
We returned to San Miguel just before dark, after a full day enjoying a delightful town, making new friends and developing our drawing skills.
